Get involved

There’s plenty of ways to support the Young@Heart Café.

Make a donation

If you would like to support the work of the Young@Heart Café you can make a one-off donation or a regular donation via our funding page.

Volunteer

We wanted friendship to be a big part of the café. Not just friendship between guests the person with dementia and their carer, but friendship between our volunteers and guests too.

Since we set up Young@Heart café the need for local community services has grown as the number of those living with dementia increases.

Now many of our guests meet up informally when Young@Heart is not open.

We also offer training to all our volunteers including:

  • First Aid

  • Safeguarding

  • Updating knowledge on  dementia

We don’t expect volunteers to provide nursing care, but our training is designed to use their lived experience of dementia. Training enables them to feel more confident when they supporting our guests.

Each Young@Heart volunteer has achieved the requirements to become part of the Alzheimer's Society’s Dementia Friends movement.

Want to volunteer?

We are always on the lookout for more volunteers to join us at the Young@Heart Café every month. Just complete the form below if you’re interested.

Take part in a fundraising event

We have organised a number of fundraising events which have a dual purpose: to raise money to run the Young@Heart Café and to create a dementia-friendly community in Luton, Dunstable and the surrounding area.

Cycling Without Age – influenced by a Danish project that helped people to gain the experience of cycling in the open spaces, we hired rickshaws from Covent Garden in summer 2018 and took guests around Wardown Park.

Go to our news section for information on forthcoming events.

Carers Group: ‘Tea & Talk’

If you are a carer supporting someone with dementia in the local area you are very welcome to join us.

We piloted a monthly Carers Group in 2018 which is now supported by a volunteer facilitator who has lived experience of dementia.

Many of our family carers valued this group after it was launched in spring 2019 as our ‘Tea and Talk Support Group’. Just complete the form below if you would like have a cuppa and a natter!

Are you a Young @ Heart artist?

At Young@Heart we’re always on the lookout for new artists and bands. If you would like to perform for our guests or even lead the Young@Heart choir (pictured), please complete the form below and we’ll be in touch very soon.
